Frequently Asked Questions

Reading the FAQ will probably answer most peoples questions, please look through them and hopefully at least one of your questions will be answered.

1. How can I get a bot?
To apply for a bot you must goto www.clanbots.org/apply.php and fill out the application.

2. How do I change my password on my bot?
To change your password, type /msg ClanBots pass password

3. Can I change the nickname of my bot?
No, you cannot change the nick of the ClanBot assigned to you. If you were able to, it would change network-wide for all channels the bot is in. Therefore, it is not possible to do this.

4. Can someone help me setup my bot?
We have made a Setup Guide page to help users configure their ClanBot to get the most out of its features, goto http://www.clanbots.org/setup.php for help.

5. I've lost my password, and I can't login!
Please use the resetpass command. Type /msg ClanBots resetpass handle newpassword. This will allow you to make a new password for your account. (Note: You must have an email set to use this.)

6. There is 10 users in my channel but I was denied for not having 10 users. Why?
There can be many reasons for this. One of them is that ChanServ doesnt count as a person. Also all 'Idler' bots are not real persons, thus causing the count of users to be decreased causing the denial of your application.

7. Where did my bot go?
There are a few possible reasons why your bot is not in your channel. First possibility is that your channel was suspended for not meeting the requirements of having a ClanBot. If you want to get your channel unsuspended, read the TOS and Guidelines and fix whatever you did wrong. Then go into #clanbots on your network and ask a staff member to undo the suspension. Also, your channel could have been removed from ClanBot's list. This is due to repeated offence of the TOS and Guidelines. You cannot get your bot back unless you apply for one again, even then there is a slim chance of getting it back. Another possible reason for your missing bot is that there was a netsplit. netsplit is when the connection between two IRC servers breaks. People on one side of the split cannot see or talk to people on the other side of the split until the servers reconnect. Just wait a while and your ClanBot will be back in your channel.

8. The bots say that I am not identified, how do I identify?
To identify to your ClanBots account, type: /msg ClanBots ident handle password

9. How do I add someone to the userlist so they can change commands?
First the person needs to register a ClanBots account if they have not already by typing: /msg ClanBots register handle password email, then you need to add them to the list by typing: (trigger)adduser nickname level

10. How can I get the bot to leave my channel?
To get the bot to leave your channel, type "/msg ClanBot-X leavechan #channel (reason)". Make sure your replace "X" with your ClanBot number and "#channel" with your channel. Remember that this is permanent and cannot be undone.

11. I just applied, how long will it take to get a reply?
With our new applications system, it should take no more than 15 minutes to have your application reviewed. Once reviewed please check your email.

12. Can I add my own custom commands?
Yes you can with the command (trigger)custom add (cmd) (info) OR /msg ClanBot-X custom #channel add (cmd) (info). This will allow users to add a custom command (cmd) with the (info).

13. How do I use the skin command?
The skin command's basic syntax is cb-xx set skin %command% %info%. %command% and %info% are variables that contain a command and its contents respectively. Change the colour of these variables to suit your channel's theme. You may also add 'ornaments' such as end tags to the syntax.

14. What is a handle and how can I get one?
A handle is a ClanBots account. Everyone who wants to use a ClanBot is required to have their own handle registered. If you want to make your own ClanBots account you can either register via the website www.clanbots.org/register.php or by typing in IRC: /msg ClanBots register handle password
